Help Me Understand
My dad always told me that during an altercation with someone (you know, like when you are on the phone with the cable company and dealing with an idiot) when you are upset a good phrase to use is “help me understand.”
This is what I’d like help understanding: I went to oldnavy.com in search of nursing camisoles. I have two that were hand me downs from a friend that I sleep in and I I have a few shirts that are a little too see through to not wear something under them thus necessitating one or two more. I was happy to find that Old Navy has a link for nursing. And I was happy to see that they had nursing camisoles….oh wait. They are MATERNITY nursing camisoles and that seems like a contradiction. Im wondering who exactly buys a maternity nursing camisole? Is there a large population of lactating pregnant women that I am unaware of?
2nd. I went to the commissary today to get a few things. After one loop through the parking lot I knew it was regrettable that I had to shop on a Saturday. Then while I was standing in the line of 50 people I remembered it was payday. Help me understand why, not even why, but HOW people live so paycheck to paycheck that they all flood in to get food the second their direct deposit hits. Its not as though we only get paid once a month- do people really blow through their money or budget so poorly that a necessity such as food can only be purchased when people get paid? People are tooling through the aisles with cartfuls- sometimes TWO cartfuls of food, making sure they stock up on enough to make it through until the beginning of next month. As a brand new 2nd Lt. with a car payment and part of a mortgage to pay I know what its like to feel perpetually broke but food was never an issue. Im just amazed that people choose to live like that.

Sadly, this behavior isn’t even related to the country’s current economic woes as this was typical back when I was a kid and my parents were in the military. I remember many a trip to the commissary where my Mom would break out the face palm and regret that THIS was the day we chose to go shopping.
