The Dog That Won’t Die

So….yeah. Um, as it turns out Sandy isn’t going to be put to sleep. First of all- thank you all for your heartfelt comments. I’ll remember them when the big day finally arrives. PC took her to the vet yesterday where all of her ailments got “cured.” She has a bladder infection which is supposedly supposed to help with the peeing in the house and slurping up water. She has medicine to make her fur stop falling out. The reason she hasn’t been eating is because her rotten teeth are so bad, so now she gets wet dog food. She has painkillers for her hips. Her kidney and liver function are fine. The vet said Sandy is one of the very few dogs that they have seen in such excellent health (for her age). Well, now I feel like a winner.

  • Well, I guess if we thought you were on your last leg we might get a second opinion, too :) Hopefully all of this didn’t set you back too much (said the girl who has to budget for the dog’s ailments) and it works. Can’t wait to hear the verdict. And does this mean she’s had a bladder infection her whole life? Because the massive amounts of water thing has been around a while…

  • You know what Grampa Ed says about old pets! Agree with Steph, a second opinion! How much more are you up to and what is the quality of Sandy’s life?

  • Glad to hear Sandy’s ailments can be taken care of with medicine! Hopefully, she’ll be up and running in no time, without the mess : )

  • You didn’t mention the poop. Or the throwing up bile. Are they able to “fix” those with drugs too? My mom just dealt with this with her cat. He was on antidepressants, pain killers, special food and was still peeing all over the house and had turned really mean. The vet still wouldn’t hear of putting him down. So my mom found another vet. She said enough was enough. You can only do so much to an animal before it becomes ridiculous. Give this a try but no one will fault you if it doesn’t work out.
