First a Milkshake, Then a Popsicle

Nathan came down with a wicked bug yesterday afternoon. All of a sudden it sort of hit him that he was feeling puny and around 5pm he came in, curled up on the couch and fell asleep for the rest of the night. He complained that his throat hurt and he has a fever. Im about ready to bang my head against a wall because this child has been sick since Thanksgiving. I dont mean like he’s gotten sick multiple times since Thanksgiving, I mean he has literally had a cough and been congested since Thanksgiving. I’ve been to the doctor multiple times. We’ve done a round of antibiotics, we’ve ruled out pneumonia, ruled out any 3rd world diseases that we could have gotten in Thailand, I’ve had a PPD done, the doctor says our next step is to treat him for asthma. Me=thinks thats highly unlikely. He just has the crud and it wont go away. Honest to God, I don’t know what to do. As I told PC this morning its a good thing our healthcare is free because we’d be racking up quite a tab in co-pays otherwise. Ahhh…Im just thankful that its not the stomach flu. I can handle fever and snot nose.

Today we are lounging. I told Nathan he can have anything he wants to eat, suggesting a variety of cold things for his sore throat. He seized that opportunity by requesting a milkshake to be followed by a popsicle. We’ve switched to chewable motrin since getting him to take liquid medicine of any sort is a painful experience. But when you feel like ass you don’t want to chew motrin either….even though your mom assures you, you will feel better if you just take it. So, I had to whip out the ole “this is how my mom did it” handbook and crush up the motrin in applesauce. Man, I have “fond” memories of being sick as a kid and getting dosed with medicine crushed up in a spoonful of applesauce, or, better yet, a spoonful of jelly. Disgusting.
