This post inspired me to start exercising. I haven't done a thing for the past...5 years? I've been making excuses about not having enough time, with working and two kids. I've had 30 Minute Shred sitting next to my DVD player, still in the plastic, for months. So thanks for jump starting me into action. I've only been at it for 2 days! but now I have a plan and I feel motivated.

OHMYGOD. Where have I been? I can't believe I missed this post! Hm. Okay. I had one of the sick kids you mentioned, right!?

Okay. So working out. I have been doing the elliptical/sit down bike for over a year now with an occasional class thrown in and weights as well. Just Sunday I decided to try to run a bit. And I ran about 4 turns around the gym track (small track). I HURT afterwards. And I've been doing 30 minutes on level 10 on the elliptical. But wow. Much different. I just know people who are so passionate about running I thought I'd see what the big deal was. I'm hesitant to start running because I've heard that 60%+ of runners get injured. I am just not sure it is good for joints, etc. But it certainly feels like a good workout. I had this goal to be in the best shape of my life by the time I turned 35....which is in 4 months. So, ummmmmm...that may not be happening. I am ordering the 30 day shred as soon as I finish this comment.

I am with you on Lady Gaga and Viva La Vida. I also love Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You, RIght Round, Florida, Say Hey by Michael Franti and Spearhead, Hey Soul Sister by Train, American Boy by Estelle and Kanye, Last Night by the Strokes, Somebody told me by the Killers.

And you don't want to know about my workout clothes. Since when do you have to buy clothes for working out? What happened to wearing your old shit while you sweat and THEN putting on your nice new clothes after you shower!???? I wear some crappy ass stuff from Target. I look hideous. I don't give a crap!!:)

My favorite exercise is swimming. Every muscle is working, it's incredibly therapeutic to just focus on my breathing (you know, so I don't forget and drown), and it's difficult to just "phone it in" - especially when my goal is at least 20 minutes without my feet touching the ground. Reading your post this morning kicked me into gear and I actually WENT swimming today.

I was doing Couch to 5K late last year and getting into a groove where I actually could run without feeling like I was going to throw up, but I dropped dinner on my foot and broke my toe which sidelined that. Need to start it up again. I downloaded an app for C25K, but I actually prefer to watch the sitcoms on the gym TVs over listening to music. It's less painful to run if I can laugh at the TV while I'm doing it (and I always push myself really hard during the commercials).

Best workout in the world? Rock climbing! But it takes lots of time that I no longer have. I don't think I've ever been as buff as I was when I was climbing 2-3 times a week and playing soccer three nights a week. Ah those pre-kid days...

Now I've got one night of soccer (great cardio!), a few days of yoga at the gym, and sporadic running and weights. I'm actually considering checking out the shred--I've heard great things about it and I really need something I can do at home when the kids are under the weather and not able to go to the kids' club at the gym.

I don't have any particular gear I'm crazy about to mention. But I am completely in love with my shuffle and my inhaler--it takes both to make running possible for me.

As for tunes, hum... I'm with you, gotta love some dance music. Here are a few songs I like--some you'll know, but I'll lean toward obscure things you might not have heard. Not sure if any of them are BLACK BOX good. ;)

Take a Chance on me -- Abba
Stop the Rock -- Apollo 440
Alcohol -- Bare Naked Ladies
Intergalactic -- Beastie Boys
Dracula from Houston -- Butthole Surfers
Gonna Make you Sweat -- C&C Music Factory
Because We Can -- Fatboy Slim (from Moulin Rouge)
Pump up the Volume -- Marrs
Send Me on my Way -- Rusted Root (I think this is one of my favorites!)
Birdhouse in your Soul -- They Might be Giants
Lackluster -- Poi Dog Pondering
I've Got the Power -- Snap

Now I'm going to have to hope online and check out some of your songs that I'm not familiar with.

You crack me up. I'm glad that you like working out or at least the benefits of it. I always tell Marc that it's how I feel after I work out that motivates me to work out. No matter what I do for the rest of the day, I feel productive if I've worked out. And I've actually grown to like running. I still hate doing it on a treadmill, since I can't help but stare at the mileage and time, but running outside I like. For now with the cold and dark nights I'm stuck on the treadmill, but am looking forward to my Spring/Summer runs.
