We were adamantly against a minivan too.... And since renting one a couple times I have to admit I finally get it. So many times I just wish te doors would slide on our suv! Lol! What about a Honda pilot? I highly recommend lookin at them and the highlander (highlander can be a hybrid If that helps your guilt). My parents har an outback and it is great but too small to take any more
Than two adults and two car
Seats. Can't even squeeze one more adult in. But it has nice trunk space and drives really well!

Lisa, Marc and I have had this conversation several times and have decided that we do not need a minivan. I admit that when guests come in from out of town, i.e. you guys : ), I'd love to travel in one vehicle. But other than that one time a year, the Subaru is great. And you shouldn't pay sticker price, Marc and I got a pretty good deal when we bought ours back in 06. I feel like with the economy and gas prices, smaller is better. While third row seating sounds nice, the amount I feel like it would actually get used is pretty low. Also, can you really fit two families of four in a car with a third row? I feel like you'd need to opt for the minivan. If you do get a minivan, however, we will take advantage when we're in town.

Lisa- So funny you should bring this up. Angie and Steve just bought a new Outback and have had a Prius for about a year. They did not even consider a van. Pete and Anne had a van, but never really warmed to it. The van was totaled in an accident (nobody hurt), and they replaced it with a Camry. So, vans do not seem to be the vehicle of choice for these Matthes families. We always loved having a van when the boys were growing up, but I guess they are not for everyone. Good luck with your deliberations!

What is UP with all the minivan hate?!? Look, you're going to be in America--not some tiny island. Think of road trips, vacations, your kids getting older (it won't always be about the car seats) and needing to haul band equipment or sports equipment or whatever. And taking two cars isn't so practical when you have to drive long distances. I love my Honda Odyssey and I say it with pride! In town it gets around 20 mpg and when we drive on the highway probably about 27 (not bad for a minivan).

But I know you won't listen because I think I've told you all this before. ;) Which means you'll probably end up with an Outback--at least it has some hauling space. The Prius is nice but crazy expensive for such a small thing.

I'm still rootin' for the Nissans- we now have a total of 3- yes, 3. Between the 2 of us... a Titan (Kenny's), a Rogue (mine) and now a cute little Sentra (a car-for-car trade that needs some engine work). I'm convinced.

I can only speak for myself but we definitely need and use a third row. With kids over four they just use a butt booster eith the car
Seat belt so it isn't a matter of installing car seats. We have out of town visitors often and with Johns job, he usually isn't available to drive to re airport (which is a 45 min drive). If you really don't need a third row, I say you go with another Honda!!!
